I stumbled upon this trick by accident and it quickly became one of those “gems” you find yourself performing at every opportunity. It is contagious. Whenever I teach a fellow magician “Batteries Not Included,” they end up performing it just as often.

Imagine sitting around the house and your friend needs to change out the batteries in their remote. This is your chance to strike! You explain that batteries are actually magnetic. But you lay them out and nothing happens. "You need to rub them together to get the charge going." Now when you hold them side-to-side, one above the other, one of the batteries floats! Your friend tries it with no such luck.
